I have been a nurse for nearly 34 years with the last 15 working in integrated wellness medicine and the last 7 as an NP in functional medicine and addiction recovery. This is very near and dear to me due to a significant health issue I had in 2011. I found myself with adult-onset asthma in the hospital on oxygen with a saturation of 83%. And those of you that know nurses know they are the WORST patients. I could not figure out how I arrived at this place at the young age of 44 and neither could my late husband, a critical care pulmonologist. I went to several specialists, my own PCP, and did a ton of research on my own. After being told by the specialists that I had a psychiatric problem not asthma, I began to do my own testing with the help of my PCP. I knew I did not have a psychiatric issue as I had been tested for a variety of psychiatric issues that were prevalent in my family. Turns out that what I had was leaky gut syndrome from years of Diet Coke consumption and the use of artificial sweeteners. From that, I had developed several allergies to my favorite foods which impacted my daily life. I then began my own healthcare plan that took five years of strict nutrition to heal the gut. After that, I decided that patients, especially women, need an advocate to listen to them and help them heal from the root causes of their diseases and ailments. We don’t need a Band-Aid on the symptom. I continued my training and studied daily implementing that information into my late husband’s practice before he passed from cancer. I then went to NP school so that I could continue to help others. This is how I end up here with my own practice. The greatest lesson I ever learned from my late husband was this: “The patient will tell you what is wrong with them 99% of the time if you will just listen to what they are telling you.” I implement this on a daily basis. And if I cannot find the answers, I consult others who I know can help me uncover what someone else missed. More recently my passion has been taking care of patients with long covid syndrome as that is where the biggest needs are in healthcare today.

I'm a certified medical assistant with extensive experience in patient care and clinical support. My path into healthcare was shaped by my own family's experience with cancer, which gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care. Choosing healthcare was more than simply choosing a career for me- it became a calling. I'm passionate about what I do and take great pride in being there for patients during some of their most difficult and vulnerable moments.
I believe loyalty, compassion, and dedication are important qualities in both heathcare and in life. I'm committed to the people I work with and to the patients who trust me with their care. I've had the privilege of working alongside Deborah for many years, and that experience has been very meaningful to me. I value the relationships I've built throughout my career and believe that being dependable and genuinely caring can make a difference in a patient's experience.
Most importantly, I care about the whole person - not just their medical needs. I want every patient to feel seen, heard, respected, and cared for. Whether I'm helping with their medical needs, offering support, or simply being someone they can talk to, I strive to make each patient feel comfortable and know that they matter. Caring for others is something I'm truly passionate about, and I'm grateful to be able to do work that has such a meaningful impact on people's lives.

I've had a passion for functional and integrative medicine for as long as I can remember. As early as high school, I began wondering what would drive optimal health. This led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Auburn University. I studied the foundational role food and lifestyle play in health.
I expanded my clinical scope by completing an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Tennessee and began my career on the OB/Gynecology unit in the hospital. While I valued my time in the hospital, I eventually recognized the limitations of conventional medicine’s seemingly singular focus managing symptoms rather than investigating underlying causes. I felt called toward a different path—one that centered on the body's intelligent design and focused on supporting how it was naturally created to function.
My journey to DMS Integrative Wellness Medicine began through a recommendation from my chiropractor. After shadowing Deborah, I immediately knew that I wanted to work alongside her. I knew this approach was out there, but seeing Deborah actually practice it inspired me. In fact, after shadowing her, I scheduled an appointment with her for my own health! I experienced firsthand what our patients will experience: Deborah's integrative approach gets results.
